What messages do you send to yourself in the morning when you first wake up? Are they messages of inspiration and focused joy or are they messages of doubt, anxiety and fear.
Unfortunately for most people the answer is the later, they find their morning mind filling them with stories of dread and stress about not only the coming day ahead but also projecting that anxiety into the future.
If you are one of those people who wakes with anxiety as you morning companion, there is something you can do about it...
and that is to take mindful and conscious control of the conversations in your mind. The negative thoughts that bounce around inside your brain are not in control, in fact to be perfectly clear none of the thoughts are in control of you. You have the ability to adjust the conversation in your mind and through awareness turn that story into one that supports your best well being.
First, you actually have to notice what the stream of thoughts are that flood through your mind as you begin to awaken. As you become aware of the messages, notice if they are supportive or destructive. If the anxious story seems to be dominating, actually choose to converse with the thoughts and create an alternative, positive story that is supportive or your success during the day.
At first this may seem a little odd, and even impossible but with very little practice you will discover that altering the flow of you thoughts is actually a manageable process. All it really takes is an awareness of what is going on in your mind and then making a choice to alter that conversation.
Try it tomorrow morning and see how changing the morning conversation in you brain can alter and improve the entire tone of your day.
